I can’t believe how much I have loved being pregnant. I don’t know whether it’s because I’ve wanted this for so long or because I’ve had a relatively smooth pregnancy or because I just think it is an absolutely awesome experience, and I am starting to mourn the end of this experience a little. Just a little.
That being said – I can’t wait for people to stop looking at/sizing up/backing away from/making a comment about me. I’m ready to just blend in a little bit. In the beginning, I started keeping a list of the random comments that people made to me about the pregnancy/baby. Here are a few of my favorites:
“Wow! You’ve really popped out.” --unnamed colleague at HMH
“Well your definitely prego now.” --a different unnamed colleague at HMH
“I don’t mean to be offensive, but are you pregnant?” --Steak-n-Shake waitress in Maplewood, MO
“Oh, you’re due in July. You’ll have a Cancer. Don’t be surprised if your baby is too attached to you. I mean, you’ll probably get sick of how attached the kid will be. Cancer’s are like that.” --furniture salesperson at American Signature in Altamonte Springs
"Congratulations! When are you due? Oh, that's nice. Is the baby healthy?" --waitress at Bahama Breeze in Altamonte Springs (how do you answer that?)
"You walk like me now!" --colleague at HMH, who I have to mention is a 60-year old man with chronic foot problems
"So I guess that kid doesn't want to come out yet, eh? Heh heh." --yet another unnamed colleague at HMH
"Wow. Your feet are really swollen." --dozens and dozens of strangers over the past few months
